sold / Supertone Houn Dog c 1929
Harmony Supertone Houn' Dog c 1929  |  SOLD  |  The Supertone Bradley Kincaid 'Houn' Dog' is one of the earlier 'endorsement' guitars.  Beginning in 1929 these guitars were made by Harmony (owned by Sears) and sold through the Sears catalog.  Bradley Kincaid was a popular radio star and 'folk' singer of the day.

The Supertone is a fairly well made guitar built from quality materials, and very light in weight.  The back and sides are mahogany.  The top is spruce, ladder braced, with the applied Bradly Kincaid Houn' Dog decal.  (The story goes that Bradley's first guitar was acquired via trade for a dog, hence the Houn' Dog name.)  The top and sound hole are bound in colorful marquetry and white celluloid.  The back is bound in white celluloid.  The neck is mahogany, carved in a soft 'V' shape, with a Brazilian rosewood overlay on the head stock.  The fingerboard is ebonized maple with three pearl position markers.    The tuners are brass and appear original.  The end pin is a later replacement.  The Supertone label is torn.

The guitar body is crack free.  The bridge is a replacement.  The neck was recently reset and the frets leveled and dressed.  The fingerboard has some shrinkage cracks and shows divot wear in the first position.  Two of the pearl dots are replacements.  There is wear and tear on the top along the lower seam of the bridge.

Action is set at about 564" and the guitar plays easily.   Because of its light weight, the guitar is very resonant, responding well to even a light touch.  The tone is warm and woody.  A nice finger picking guitar.

Comes with a soft case.
