Gibson LG2 1946  | SOLD  |  (v2208)  The LG2 first appeared in 1942, and was the first offering in the LG series as the medium-sized flat tops transitioned from the 30s era L-series.  By the end of 1945, the wartime "Only a Gibson is Good Enough" banner era came to an end, and the 'script' logo appeared for a very short time (no one is 100% sure when it began and ended, the answer lost to time), but soon gave way to the 'block' 'G' logo.  The LG went on to become a very popular series for Gibson and there are a good number of them that appear on the vintage market.  However, these script logo LG2s from 1946-47 are quite rare and exhibit a few transitional appointments from the banner era, notably the 1 3/4" neck width.

The body is mahogany with the top and back bound in white celluloid.  The spruce top features scalloped X-braces and the iconic Gibson sunburst.  The sound hole features a b/w purfling ring.  The teardrop-shaped pick guard is faux tortoise.  The (replaced) bridge is Brazilian rosewood.  The neck is mahogany and is carved in the comfortable 'C' shape.  The fingerboard is Brazilian rosewood and features a number of pearl position dots.  The head stock is painted black and sports the gold Gibson script logo.  The tuners are enclosed Kluson and likely replacements.

The body measures 14 5/16" across at the lower bout.  Scale length is 25", and intonation is spot-on.  The neck measures 1 3/4" across at the nut and string spacing is 2 3/16" across at the saddle.

The guitar came to us with a number of well-executed repairs:  several top cracks glued and cleated; a treble side crack glued; neck reset; new bridge; new rosewood bridge plate.  The action is set at 6 & 7/64" and the guitar plays smoothly.

The LG2s feature scalloped bracing and produce a clear and ringing sound with strong mids and highs.  They are great for recording and fingerpicking the blues, but can hold their own when flat picked.

Comes with a newer hard case.
