Gibson LG1 1965  |  SOLD  |  (v2027)  The LG1 was the ladder-braced version of the LG2, and by 1965, had enjoyed about a 25 year run.  A few changes occurred over this span.  By the early 60s, the neck was thinner and the bridge made from molded plastic.  Mahogany ply was used in lieu of solid mahogany, but the guitar remained a popular choice for budget-conscious players who wanted the Gibson cachet.

This is a clean and original example.  The top is solid spruce with a very attractive reddish sunburst and pick guard.  The body is ply-mahogany, bound top and back in white celluloid.  The sound hole sports b/w trim.  The neck is mahogany, and carved in the modern-feeling, slightly-slim 'C'-shape, and supports an adjustable truss rod.  The fingerboard is Brazilian rosewood.  Tuners are enclosed Klusons.  The headstock is painted black with the gold 'Gibson' logo at the top.

The body measures 14 1/4" across the lower bout.  Scale length is 24 3/4".  The finger board measures 1 11/16" across at the nut and string spacing is 2 1/16" across at the saddle.  The guitar appears all original including finish, tuners, bridge pins and end pin.  The original plastic bridge was replaced.  There are no discernable cracks.  The 'D' tuner shaft is slightly bent.

One older repair appears to be a re-glued back brace.  We recently reset the neck, dressed the frets, and made a new bridge.  Intonation is spot-on, and action is set at 5&6/64".

With low action, hefty frets and 'fast' neck, the guitar plays easily and produces a warm but punchy woody tone and nice sustain.  Nice for strumming, fingerpicking or flatpicking.

Comes with a soft case.
