sold / Gibson ES175 1949 v 2228
Gibson ES175 1949  |  SOLD  |  (v2228)   The ES175 is an iconic archtop jazz guitar, favored by many touring professionals, and for good reason:  they play great, present a stellar appearance and sound even better!   This is a first year edition, 1949, in mostly original condition.

The single-cut body measures 16 1/4" across and is laminated maple, bound in w/b/w celluloid on top, and white celluloid on back.  The neck is maple, truss rod supported and carved in a comfortable 'C'-shape.  The fingerboard is Brazilian rosewood, features double paralellogram inlays, and is bound in white celluloid.  The black-painted headstock features 'Gibson' and a crown, both inlaid with pearl.  The tuners are the original individual enclosed Klusons, with 'tulip' buttons.  The nickel-plated tailpiece is the pointy-end style with three raised paralellograms.  The pickup is the original P90 in the neck position, and features two control knobs.  The bridge is a compensated replacement.

The neck measures 1 11/16" across at the nut, and string spacing is a hair over 2" at the saddle.  The body measures 16 1/4" across.  Scale length is 25".  The guitar is strung with 11/52 flat-wounds, and action is set at a slinky 4/64", but can be adjusted as desired.

The bridge is a replacement, although the bottom section of the original remains in the case.  One tuner shaft is bent.  There is a 1" section of binding missing in the cutaway.  There is a repaired ding in the area of the input jack, where the guitar appears to have taken a bump at some point.  The tone control is not functioning.  The pick guard is absent.  There is a chip out in the headstock.  The guitar is in overall very good condition cosmetically, with evidence of playing wear in the fingerboard.  The original finish with its supurb Gibson sunburst still sparkles!

The guitar retains its original hard case in ok condition, with some taped up areas of the covering.
